These two granite slabs from Hallowell Pluton are intrusive igneous rocks consisting primarily of feldspar and quartz. Note how their grain size and color differ from the adjacent pink Deer Isle granite. More than 150 granite quarries were operating in Maine in the early 1900s.
Location: Stinchfield Quarry, Hallowell, Kennebec County
